Saigon makes really good spring rolls. I had the tofu and shrimp and both tasted fresh with great texture and flavor. The peanut sauce was rich and went perfectly with them. The rolls are big and filling and the price is more than fair. It feels like a solid meal and isn’t heavy at all. There’s no seating and the place is strictly takeout. The atmosphere isn’t anything special but the staff is friendly and quick. You’re not going to sit, you’re going for the food. It doesn’t disappoint.
I have always wanted to try Pho. We took the family to try this place for the first time. We ordered steak pho, chicken pho, shrimp fried rice, egg rolls and shrimp spring rolls. It was take out only but we found some outdoor seating near the water behind the restaurant. They have the noodles and broth/meat separate then you combine them. Everything was delicious and the people were very friendly. It took about 30 mins to prepare the food so we checked out a few shops in the meantime.
The pho is only good if you finish it all in one sitting. We got the chicken pho because was scared the meat was going to be undercooked since it’s to go. I feel that pho places shouldn’t be ‘to-go.’ Got the Thai fried rice and the guy didn’t ask for the spice level.. I didn’t realize it came spicy! Also didn’t taste good the day after. Rice was hard. Overall I wish it was a sit down restaurant and it probably would’ve been enjoyable. I’d probably skip this next time.
The service was excellent- everyone there was friendly and attentive. The food was honestly disappointing. Spring rolls were fine, a little bland. Egg rolls were strange tasting. Beef veggie stir fry had a decent sauce, pitiful amount of beef, and the veggies were cut up in a kind of lazy unappetizing way. The pho broth was pretty bad, kind of sweet and tangy, and noodles had an oddly firm texture. Nothing really reminded me of the typical flavors of Vietnamese cuisine that I am used to. The restaurant itself was a little shoddy, which is fine, but having flies all over the place was a little annoying. Sorry to leave such a harsh review, but hopefully they can improve.
Great pho & Thai tea to go. Not as good as here in D.C. but still very fresh and a nice change from seafood. Great service, albeit a bit slow. I’ll be back when on the island!
