stayed 2 nights. Its not your typical B&B. Owners are super nice and knowledgeable. They serve organic breakfast with huge fruit tray they grow on there farm. There is a tour of the grounds that you can take, which lasted. 2 hours. The room we stayed had only screens and the rooster will start about 5 am. Stay here if you want authentic Hawaiian treatment, but don't expect to much. almost everyone says they love it including us, but if you expect a classy resort with all the trimmings, go elsewhere. Very cheap for this side of the island, and tons to do close by. One of the unique gems on the Big Island. No tv in our room. Common fridge. I believe there are only 3 rooms to rent so very private feeling. Lots of cats, chickens, mosquitoes and harmless spiders.
OK so I plagiarized that from another review, but it gets right to the heart of what makes Lucky Farm praiseworthy. Yes, you need industrial-strength earplugs to sleep through the night, what with the cats pouncing on critters on the roof, branches scraping across the roof (the underside of the corrugated roofing panels is exposed to the room below, so noise travels really well), and the roosters crowing all night. Yes, JP's lectures over breakfast can be a little much - it would be great if he would allow more give and take rather than just a monologue. But how wonderful that JP and Johnsie love their land so much and are so committed to using its products to the fullest, and that they have made a life from sharing this love with their guests! ||||Having read other reviews, I think that J
We thoroughly enjoyed all of our stay at Lucky Farm B&B. The quirky coffee barn cottage surrounded by banana trees with its the private ‘outside shower’ was exactly what we were looking for as relaxing get-away-from-it-all time on the Big Island. We enjoyed Johnsie’s great breakfasts (with bags to take the leftover fruits for lunch!) and the music and commentary from JP. We have fine memories of the evenings on the lanai watching the sunsets over the ocean far below and darkness fall over the tropical trees. If you like nature and you don’t mind the early rooster crowing we can warmly recommend Luck Farm B&B. Thanks for making our stay on the Big Island so enjoyable Johnsie and JP and who knows – we could be back.||Clive and Wendy, Christchurch, New Zealand
Staying at the Lucky farm was a unique experience and if we have the chance to come back to Hawaii, we'll definitely come back there! It's true, the kitchen is a bit small and not so functionnal but well... you'll probably not prepare a 5 star dinner, so it's more than enough. Yes, the mosquitos will chase you and the rooster and frogs will try to keep you awake all night but there are two simple solutions: mosquito spray and earplugs. If you forgot yours, just ask Johnsie or JP. The two owners are not only the most friendly and helpful persons on earth, they also know a lot about nature, music, culture and many other things and will love to share their knowledge with you (take a small tour of the farm with JP if you have time!). Contrary to what I could reed, they are not arrogant at all
I have mixed opinions of the place. You will be staying literally in a farm. The rooster will wake you couple an hour before dawn. There's crazy amount of mosquitos but we were fine after brought the candles. We even left an extra candle for the next guest. The room was okay. It was very old school Hawaiian if you want get the feel for that. The community areas is really bad though. All the extra stuff they had so we can "borrow" looked like they were found on the side of the street. The owners were very nice though. They tried to make our stay as convenient as possible but the place was just so bad. I was however thankful that we were the only ones there at the time because I ate all the fruits the owners offered every morning. They were so fresh and delicious. Do I regret staying there,
