Waitsfield Inn

We had a fantastic stay at the Waitsfield Inn while visiting during an extended weekend to ski Sugarbush. The Inn has a special community vibe to it, with above-and-beyond cozy communal rooms to hangout in. The room and beds were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and offered vegan cream cheese and oat milk; having veg-friendly options is a rarity at continental hotel breakfasts, and was greatly appreciated. The staff and fellow guests were welcoming and kind, and the owner's dog Scout was a happy surprise to meet!

I quite liked the inn; good location from which to get to Warren, Waterbury, Stowe, mountains and hikes. The inn itself is run with a nice simplicity and consideration that I appreciated, good coffee, tea, breakfast choices, dairy, non dairy, gluten free options, no chemicals, no toxic, perfumey sheets, towels, cleaning products. The rooms were clean and of good basic design and modest decoration, in keeping with the era in which the inn was probably built. Simple and healthy.

My family of 4 had a lovely 3 night stay at while skiing at Sugarbush. We arrived at 10:30 pm on a Friday night and discovered my husband had booked our check-in for Saturday. A quick call to Frank and thankfully we were able to check in Friday night. We enjoyed chatting with other guests in the great room and our kids made fast friends with others at the inn. Tracy was very welcoming and even let my 5 year old “help” her with some tasks, like tending the many plants in the inn. Breakfast was better than I expected for a continental- everything was great quality: granola, muffins, yogurts, bagels, fruit, organic milk. No TV in any of the rooms. No ice machine. No housekeeping service so don’t look for the do not disturb sign for the door. If you want fresh towels, you have to ask. When I dropped something on the old musty carpet, & went to pick it up, I noticed the furniture was dusty and there was even a cobweb. You have to drag your luggage upstairs. The owner leaves out a sheet of paper with your key on it but none of those things are mentioned on the page. We were told to bring any dishes or cups from the room downstairs and leave them in the kitchen when we were finished.

Absolutely awful experience. I booked a room at The Waitsfield Inn eight months in advance for a wedding, and on the morning of the wedding, they called to say they’d overbooked and we no longer had a place to stay. No apology, no urgency — just a casual “we’ll find you something else.” Not long before the wedding, they finally came up with another B&B — 20 minutes farther away, completely screwing up our plans. We had no ride back after the wedding. The new B&B cost $250 more and they said they’d cover the difference. But that turned into another mess. I called three times, and every time Frank lied, saying variations of “the check’s in the mail” or “I’m sending the check tomorrow.” Not true.
