The Bethel Sugar Shack

I live about 4 hours away, but I frequent Bethel with friends every month or so. I had the Shamrock Shake yesterday and a sub, both of which were delicious. I have had other ice cream flavors here as well, all have been delicious. I love the "old-school" feel of the ice cream parlor, as well as the fact they're open all year-round in such a seasonal place.

We were visiting Bethel for a weekend trip and knew nothing about the town or restaurants. We saw this place on google and decided to give it a try, it’s easily in my top five favorite places to eat EVER now!! I’m so sad we don’t live close enough to come every weekend, because the food, ice cream and service are phenomenal. The girls working here make you feel like a local and are SO nice, the food is absolutely to die for, and the ice cream was the best ice cream sundae we’ve ever had. I would come back to Bethel (which is five hours away for us, to put it into perspective) just to get the honey mustard chicken wrap and peanut butter sundae. Can’t speak highly enough about this place.

Perfect little spot for burgers, sandwiches and the main star, ice cream! Super sweet servers and they serve Gildfords ice cream. We got a chicken bomb sandwich and a brownie sundae.

2025: amazing milkshakes and ice cream, very clean and super friendly staff! 2024: Super yummy ice cream and the menu identifies allergens so one knows what they are ordering and doesn't need to ask about every flavor which is excellent because I'm gluten free and that can be time consuming. Service is fast and excellent. Atmosphere is a good, un-gentrified, country icecream stand!

I had a grilled cheese on whole wheat. Nothing fancy, but I appreciated a choice in breads. It was toasted perfectly and arrived to the table quickly. I had actually stopped for an ice cream cone, but they were only offering 5 different flavors...none that struck a chord with me. I was expecting a bigger list since the sign advertised Gifford's, which is one of my favorites in hard ice cream choices. Anyway, no complaints. Good sandwich. Quick and friendly service. Clean dining g area and restroom.
