Peter Shields Inn & Restaurant

Had a fabulous meal in the restaurant. They definitely offer meals you don’t typically find at the shore and their menus do change based on season/holidays. they make great cocktails, and have a wonderful atmosphere. It is more of a fine dining experience. Their appetizers are on the smaller side so you don’t fill up with them. I had the steak tartar which was very tasty and unique to others I’ve had. For my main I had rabbit Ragu with homemade pasta that was perfect and the sauce it was cooked in was so tasty and I greatly enjoyed it. Finished the meal with desert which was apple cobbler. It also was very nice that they had a live piano player that would take song requests.

PSI was not one of our choices in the many years we've been visiting Cape May. But after our first dining experience, its our go to everytime we come. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. The food is specially prepared. We started with deviled eggs ad crab and fresh crab salad. Dinner was pork and chilean sea bass in parchment. Delicious.

On our two previous dining adventures everything was excellent, five and ten years ago. This time we were extremely disappointed. We ordered from the fixed price menu and the regular menu. The Butternut Squash Bisque was wonderful. The The Lobster Bisque was very fishy with a very strong Sherry taste. The Gnocchi were dry but the carrots in the dish were excellent. The Wagu Meatloaf was dense and overworked. The Mash Potatoes were fine and had quarter inch square bacon cubes in it. The Harvest Chicken was in a watery tomato sauce with very little flavor and it was extremely tough and dry (there were no mushrooms in the sauce, I assume they ran out). We had planned to both dine and stay overnight at the inn, but unfortunately our room reservation was accidentally booked for tomorrow and we can’t drive home and comeback again. While we weren’t able to adjust our plans to stay, we did still enjoy dinner, we had the tuna tartar, crab salad, pea soup, scallops and lobster risotto. Everything was excellent, thoughtfully prepared, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the Christmas decor was classy, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout the evening, which made the experience enjoyable despite our mishap. I can’t forget to mention the piano player! Incredible! Sean was amazing and so was the toffee cake and ice cream! Although we’re super disappointed having to take a 100 mile drive home

I flew in on a red-eye from PDX to attend my son's graduation from Coast Guard and had dinner here the day I landed as it was next door to where I was staying. The maitre d' was exceptionally accommodating as was the delightful server. The dinner was lovely as was the entire experience. I was by myself and while staff allowed me space to enjoy my dinner, they were at the same time engaging and attentive. I am grateful to everyone at Peter Shields Inn & Restaurant! Thank you all!
