Newport State Park Beach

Newport is a unique park in the state system. All of the campus options are remote - requiring a hike in of 0.25 to 1 mile. Each campsite has a bear box, fure ring and primitive toilet. There are not a lot of miles of Trail-- perhaps 8-10 miles total) but they are all very nice trails. This is also a dark sky area so it weather and moon phase cooperates you can have some fantastic star gazing. The beach is very well maintained. Best of all -- this is not a popular destination so you can really enjoy nature without the crowds of other parks.

A fabulous park and designated as an International Dark Sky Park. We enjoyed a superb view of the Persied meteor shower. There are numerous miles of beach, trails, campsites, grills, picnic tables and benches throughout.

Beautiful quiet beach with plenty trails. But some of the trails are not very well maintained (had a lot of vegetation and some places you had to wade through bushes). This is an international dark sky area, but we didn't get a chance to stay in the night and enjoy the skies, maybe next time.

Absolutely love this spot. It was a great hike for myself and six year old. There are bathrooms at the start of the trail by parking lot number three. There’s also a small sandy beach available there. The day we were there there was also someone giving an educational tour about trees. There are so many lovely and wonderful hidden spots just off of the main trails that lead to small beaches. It was very easy to be away from others even though the parking lot was full. We absolutely will be back.

Perfect spot for night sky viewing. Try getting here just at sunset for a beautiful view of the water. Set up a small area where you can lay down in the sand and just wait as the night sky transforms before you. Bring red light flashlights as not to disturb others.
