El Rey Taco Shop Salida

I was here for work for a few weeks and I’m pretty sure I grabbed food from here at least six times. The sweet lady that runs the place is great, and quite honestly impressive that she does it all, and the food comes out pretty quick. You can order at the register and pick a seat, or you can pick a seat and she will bring menus. I preferred placing my order at the register. My go-to are the street tacos and they do not disappoint. I ordered six my first time (because I’m used to places skimping on the meat)….. I took three to-go 😂😅 plenty of meat on them! This place is THE best place to get Mexican food in Salida, and possibly the most authentic tacos I have had in Colorado. Give them a try, you won’t regret it 👍🏽 we will be back again next time we are in town, no doubt.

Excellent quesabirria tacos and salsas! I appreciate the reusable dishware. Will return! Update 2/25/26: Came back and had the Asada Fries after a day at Monarch. Super tasty and large quantity! I'm always a little skeptical of queso, but it was delicious.

A very quality hole in the wall family owned restaurant. I enjoyed my food very much! I felt like it was a little pricey at $29.23 for just myself. However I can say the food was very authentic! As someone who enjoys authentic Mexican food from family. I do feel like the spice was toned down a little for the American fear of spicy, so for the food I give it 4.5 stars. I will definitely come back sometime.

Absolutely delicious and fresh! Order at the counter makes it low-key and casual but you still get chips, flavorful and fresh tabletop red salsa and what seemed like a house made avo-tomatillo green salsa. We had the veg tacos and the grilled veggies kept a slight crisp. Also the nachos were beautiful and delicious and the grilled shrimp tacos were perfectly seasoned and sauced with just a hint of sweet. Flour tortillas were amazing--again I suspect fresh homemade. It will be hard to NOT go back when we are visiting Salida.
