Vel's Amigos Continued

We've been going here since it began. Although, we haven't been here since it changed ownership. While they have updated the building and interior. The food: The menu is still the same. That said, they now charge for chips (your choice of flour or corn). The salsa isn't really salsa. It's some crushed tomatoes with little to no flavor. If you don't eat anywhere else you won't be that disappointed. Since I am a pescatarian, they have only a few items on the menu that you can get. While as a party of three, we didn't take long to order. The refried beans were basic. They tasted like they're from a can. The rice was passable, as long as you don't go anywhere else. If you like dry ground beef with a little bit of Mexican seasoning in it, then this is the place for you. The portions are big and the prices are decent.

The food was terrible. The only good thing was the canned pop and chips and cheese dip. The salsa was disgusting. If I could give a negative rating I would.

The most unique item was their puffed corn chips as a side. I love everything...a great mexican restaurant.

If blandness is your flavor of choice, this place is for you. If margaritas made from one of those syrupy mixes sounds good, this place is for you. If low cost is more important to you than good food, this place is for you. When Taco John's and Taco Bell are better choices, you know this cannot be good. This place makes me fantasize about opening my own restaurant next door and putting Ft Madison out of it's food misery.
