UDON YONPACHI

Udon Yonpachi is a hidden gem in Honolulu. This local, family-owned restaurant serves authentic Japanese udon with real care and pride. Their specialty is Yonpachi udon, where the noodles are served separately and dipped into the broth as you eat—a style you don’t find at many places on the island. The noodles are excellent, and they also have a nice selection of sake. The staff greet every guest in Japanese and are incredibly friendly, making the whole experience feel just like a small udon shop in Japan. You can truly feel the family’s passion in the food they prepare and share with their guests. Definitely worth a visit.

Delicious food and very friendly service. We really enjoyed the udon with spicy broth and tofu and mushrooms. The cold udon with sesame dipping sauce was also very good. Fun appetizers. We also really appreciated how welcoming the staff was and how attentive they were to us and our kids, making sure we all got something we enjoyed and had a good time. Highly recommended!

Went with my fiancée after her UH classes and left absolutely thrilled—we even talked about having our wedding reception here. We arrived just before the rush; it filled up fast (always a good sign), but service stayed gracious and efficient the whole time. The team greets you with cheerful Japanese greetings at the door, and several staff are fluent—hospitality feels genuine. The handmade udon is the star: silky on the surface with that perfect springy chew. I had kake udon with chicken and shrimp tempura—broth clean and comforting, shrimp crisp and sweet, and the chicken tempura was especially good: juicy inside with a shatter-crisp, non-greasy coating. Over everything I ate for lunch, I enjoyed their salad dressing the most! It has a strong wasabi flavor which I loved. But their fresh udon noodles are delicious too. We got shrimp tempura and curry nikku udon sets. The noodles were firm and long. They appeared handcut. The gobo and tsukemono were nice touches, as well. The curry could have been a bit thicker.

It felt just like being in Sapporo, Japan—the food and atmosphere were absolutely perfect. The udon noodles were wonderfully chewy, and the flavor was well-balanced without being overpowering. I know I’ll definitely be coming back! Udon may be common, but it’s not easy to find a place that does it this well—this spot nails it. Great location, clean interior, and super friendly staff.
