Customer Reviews
Great spot. They sell primarily to restaurants and overstock or remaining stock to the public. Staff are friendly, and the products at the counters are awesome, never frozen (so they say) and super fresh. The items on the shelves have a bit of a markup, but overall this is a great spot to get fresh fish!
The fish quality is good, but the selection is consistently limited—and the service is honestly unacceptable. I arrived at 3:02 (closing is 3:00) due to traffic, and they refused to open the door or let me buy even a couple of frozen items. No processing requested—just a quick purchase. I’ve been here many times, and I’ve been allowed in near closing before, so the policy feels inconsistent. Good product doesn’t excuse this kind of treatment.
Sunh Fish is a great fresh fish market! Product always seems fresh and staff are friendly and willing to answer questions/take time with you to make sure you are getting what you want. Something I have been liking lately is the frozen saba and unagi in the freezer case. These are great an inexpensive if you are looking to make some sushi or rolls at home. My other regular purchase there is the lox and the little tubs of cubed tuna (ready to make your own poke).
Everyone says “sushi grade” is an arbitrary term that refers more to a freezing point than actual freshness. Having been here multiple times, I think the fish is a cut above everywhere else in Sac (for the price). The first time I shopped at Sunh, I even got a discount for grabbing a whole salmon fillet, so it didn’t break the bank when I was just learning how to make sushi at home. Now this is my go-to any time we have a craving. Def worth the visit.
It seems like there is no need for general consumers to visit. Parking is only for 4 or 5 cars, and the area is filled with the smell of fish. Still, it seems like an important store because it is almost the only wholesale fish market in Sacramento.
