STAX Wine Bar and Bistro

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and is right on the water on the Embarcadero. They have a good wine list and excellent service. We ordered the caprese salad and some bread which was very good. The carnitas tacos were pretty good, but not great. The seafood chowder was fishy and *extremely* salty so we sent it back. Having been raised in New England and on Cape Cod we know good seafood chowder - it is almost impossible to find outside of New England, sad to say. The consistency of the chowder here at Stax was correct - on the thinner side and not too thick. That thick, gloppy stuff you see for sale is 100% wrong - authentic chowder is not thick. In any case, we would return and order the things we found on the menu that were reasonably good. Again - Stax has standout servic

We stopped in for a snack of Snails & Clam Chowder (My Wife had a small pizza) and we both had Sauvignon Blanc. Selina provided very pleasant service. The chowder was the thinnest ever but had a very robust clam flavor. My wife was happy with the pizza and the wine.

Fantastic service from Ian! The charcuterie was absolutely amazing, and a great amount of food for the price. It paired very well with the Pinot blanc 👍🏻 The patio seating with the heaters is great for relaxing and people watching. Can’t go wrong at Stax!

Decent wine bar with grub to match. Location is at the end of Morro Bay and it’s makes a good spot to wrap up a jaunt around the Bay Area to wind it up with a good swing of the red grapes. Bourbon Glazed Pork Belly was a winner for sure!

What a wonderful wine bar! Such a great selection and the folks that work there are wonderful. The owner is an absolute delight. And the food..... WOW! We will certainly visit again.
