I didn't expect to walk into a 142-year-old sandstone police station and have one of the best meals in The Rocks but here we are. The space alone is worth coming for. They've kept everything the iron cell doors, the stone walls, the weight of the history and simply placed an Akari lamp inside each one. Every cell different, every detail intentional. It feels expensive without trying. Wabi sabi in the most genuine sense. The food matches the space completely. Standouts were the beef tataki with yuzu mustard, the spicy wagyu ramen, and the salmon fire-torched tableside on hinoki wood paper! The presentation is unique. The fresh oysters and chirashi don were equally impressive. Finished with a matcha mocktail with Yakult and Calpis that was almost too pretty to drink. Sydney has a lot of g
A - MAZE - ING Food! Each dish blows you away. The kimchi fried rice and JFC almost make you cry its so good. Everything is super salty and over the top flavor overload. The space is cozy, slightly divey, hip but chill atmosphere. Prices not bad. Great place to bring friends from out of town, pretend like it ain't no thang, and blow their socks off with how laid back and amazing Portland is!
Izakaya Minato was delicious! The local Bluefin Belly Crudo was a great starter rich and buttery. The Motoyaki Oyster was my favorite dish. It was sweet, salty and had the perfect texture, one of the best oyster preparations I've had. The Beef Yuki was another one of our favorite dishes, it had a nice gochujang flavor and the beef was very tender. We finished with the Kamo Yaki Udon and the Shashimi. The Udon was great as was the Sashimi. We ordered most of the menu for 3 with drinks and our bill was under $200 I was shocked, this resturant is a great value! I would highly recommend Izakaya Minato if your looking for japanese food in Portland!
Wow wow wow, the oysters are a must try here! Loved this place so much. There’s limited seating available, so I recommend getting there before 7pm to put your name down. We got there around 7:30 and were not seated until 8:30, but there are a lot of cute breweries around to kill time. We did the omakase option which was well worth the price and allows you to try lots of seafood and some of the meat options. For two people, we left very full. Our favorite dishes were the oysters, the salad surprisingly, and the karage.
The manager of Arcadia has told me this place was better than Eventide for a while now... I had doubts. They were unfounded. It’s a small little joint, so waits are long! But there are a lot of bars and tapas places near by where you can wait. The food was amazing. I didn't see any of the typical American tuna pumped full of carbon monoxide to make it Barbie pink. Staff was awesome. Good fantastic. Better than Eventide? No, just different. It’s a food scene at Minato, and a bit more festive at Eventide. But both are there for your pleasure! Enjoy!
