Humane Society of Skagit Valley (HSSV)

We got a kitten from PetSmart in Marysville. January 2nd, 2026. The kitten came from here. He died today, on my birthday, 2/15/2026 He was 5 to 6 months old. He died because he had a clotting disorder. He was supposed to grow up with our kids. I am posting in hopes the owners of his siblings will see this. Please get your babies tested if they are 5 to 6 months old and came from here. Its a blood test. It showed up because he started having adult teeth come through. We are broken hearted and have no idea how to explain this to our toddler. This boy was LOVED so much. RIP Chief Hopper. Personally, because this happened, we will not be adopting another animal from this rescue. Our vet did say its something that should have been found when he was neutered. Edit to add: we did call. I had an odd experience at the Skagit Valley Humane Society. My mother and I came to visit a dog that had just been posted on their website. We were super excited to greet her as my mother was looking for a furry companion after losing her 14 year old dog. When we got there, we were told the dog was there but pregnant and ready to have puppies any day. This was not shared in her posting. When we went back to see the dog, we were also told that the dog was vision impaired. This was also not shared in her posting. Still, we were interested. When we were interacting with the dog, we were told that she had been surrendered with her ‘brother’ who was also the ‘father’ of the puppies and that they were bonded and had only been released to the Humane Society because their owner had passed away. N

They were very polite and caring for the animals. They helped me find the perfect cat for our home. A few days later I had some concerns and they put me completely at ease! I really appreciate all the help they gave. We adopted Atlas (now Moose) and he is wonderful! The follow up emails after the adoption we're greatly appreciated also and very helpful!

Staff is super nice and I appreciate that they ensure the animals are going to a good home. I recently adopted Minnie during their petsmart event and I could not be happier that we were able to take her home!

We had a good experience here. I was still grieving for my baby that passed last week, and didn't know if I was ready for another dog. The staff was wonderful and the process was easy. This big beautiful boy came home with us and he's already sleeping in my bed with me. Koda is so loving., and pretty.
