Customer Reviews
We had a number of dishes at this thoughtfully appointed restaurant. The music was really loud and somewhat like a video game. The speaker was over one side of the bar, making it really hard to hear my companion. The way that the dishwashing was cleared up behind the bar, made our spot incredibly noisy that we have a good view of the kitchen. It was a Thursday night and it took almost 15 minutes for Our waiter to come over and get our drink order. We produced the menu. No need to go over the six dishes we had as none of them were stand out. We tried home dishes from cold, pickled vegetables, and Japanese potato salad to an udon dish and pork wrapped rice. None of it was bad, but certainly not memorable or anything worth writing about. The sake was excellent. If I was in Portland for Ja
Aomori has a beautiful space with great decor and a strong sense of style. However, the food itself didn’t quite hit the mark or fully live up to our expectations for a new, hyped Portland restaurant. Some dishes were excellent, while others were surprisingly underwhelming. Here’s what we ordered and how we rated each dish: 1. Wolf Neck Oysters – 5/5 A fantastic way to start the meal. The oysters were very fresh, and the ponzu and accompanying ingredients complemented them perfectly. 2. Kai-yaki – 2/5 Unfortunately, this dish fell flat. It was under-seasoned, bland, and overall quite underwhelming. 3. Niku Dofu – 4/5 Simple, comforting, and well executed. Nicely seasoned and cooked, with very satisfying flavors. 4. Inaniwa Duck Udon – 4/5 A solid dish overall. The duck breast was tender a
So good! So many different options for food! Usually I want to try everything but there’s just too much for one visit!! I’ll definitely have to come back. Great atmosphere! Took me back to the Izakayas in Japan. Vibe from the team was great, super nice and knew a ton for a place that just opened (I asked about a million questions, sorry 😅). Also the open kitchen is a treat if you end up sitting at the bar! I’ll definitely be coming back to try more! But I’m also getting the Yakitori-Soba every time no matter what 🔥!
Phenomenal food and sake, the 6-course prix fixe menu was amazing, will definitely be back when visiting Portland again!
We went during the soft opening and had such an amazing time! The food was great, the staff were super friendly and nice, and the place is beautiful. Congratulations on opening!
