Ululani's Hawaiian Shave Ice - Wailuku

We were happy enough with our first shave ice stop that we came back for round two at a different location, and it was just as satisfying. It’s that perfectly shaved texture that makes it feel creamy even before you add anything, and it’s a simple joy that’s worth building into your driving-day schedule. For a Disney "Blue Milk"-inspired shave ice, try it with dragon fruit, pineapple, and watermelon (with coconut ice cream and snow cap)... it won't be blue, but it will taste similar and be delicious!

Same exact shave ice n hospitality as the og location. Albeit the indoor seating is a great addition. Its been cool to see this chain grow and I hope they never change their downhome ways. The sugar free flavors are bomb as well and all flavors in general are on spot. Wuchyou even doin if you havent tried Ululanis at least once?

Hands down the best shaved ice I ever had, quality of flavors and how fine the ice is goes a long way in flavor. We got a flight with sunset beach, party in the mouth, and eloku music and we’re thoroughly pleased with the flavors and texture! Also got a tigers blood and I believe the manager also gifted us with their new blueberry cheesecake which was perfectly refreshing slightly tart and sweet! 10/10 would recommend on a hot day or after a hike :) Also service was amazing thank you to the staff who treated us so well and gave us the history of Ululani’s!

Shave ice syrup was waaaaaaaaaaaaay too sweet, I couldn’t even finish it. I anticipated for the overly sweetness asking for a light pour. It’s sofrustrating because I asked for a light pour on my and my kids’ shave ice yet they were overflowing with syrup. I had to keep dumping syrup out. I ended up paying for another shave ice with just ice to try and salvage the shave ice from going straight to the trash. The ice I got was not even patted down. The effort just wasn’t there. The picture attached is from after pouring out half the syrup already. We told the workers that it was too much syrup, thus the purchase of just ice, and their only response was “oh.” As for the atmosphere, the girls verbally had manners but were on their phones behind the counter.

I know nobody wants to hear it, but I don't think this place is totally worth the hype. The texture of the ice is unique. It's very very fine, almost like a solid slushee. There is no texture to the ice whatsoever, which is what makes them stand out. While I could enjoy/appreciate the texture (or lack thereof), it wasn't a must. I also like Peace Love Shave Ice, who has a fine grind but still with a bit more of a flaky feel. The thing my mom and I really didn't enjoy was the flavour. We each got three flavours, and they were all a bit meh. I got three off the favourites menu, so I'm assuming those must be the best. But the only one that tasted distinct to me was calamansi.
