Looked like a dive in the outside but was cute on the inside with a view of water. I had the catfish poor boy with fries. My sandwich was good but my fries were so salty that they were burning my mouth. I was not able to eat them. My guy had the debris poor boy. He said, “it was ok. It wasn’t fantastic.” He loved the his fries because they were crispy the way he likes them. His appeared to have been salted less.
My wife called this the best Mac N Cheese she's ever had. That says a lot coming from a person who searches out recipes for it. We shared "Nana's Chicken Dinner" and spiced it up to the Nashville hot level. Beware the spice levels! I love spicy and the Nashville hot was just about the top of my range. Overall great place to go.
The Southerner is hands down my favorite spot for chicken! They make their own Nashville hot sauce (you can pick from mild to extreme), and it’s absolutely incredible. The weekends do get busy, but they make the wait easy with a walk-up bar and plenty of seating while you wait. The location is perfect, right on the Kalamazoo River—making it the ideal place to spend summer days. Parking can get tight when it’s busy, so plan ahead. Prices are on the higher side, especially for drinks, but the food and atmosphere make it well worth it. If you want to treat yourself or your loved ones, The Southerner is the place to go!
This has been a hard one to write about, especially since being local to this amazing place, we finally had a day of to go. We were there around noon (they open at 11) and our orders were taken around 12:30. We were seated outside, which was really nice and everyone around us was complimenting their food. It encouraged us that we made the right decision coming out for lunch. We had even studied the menu that morning because we don't like being indecisive. My husband had the Fried Catfish Platter and I had the deviled crab and Langostino Poor Boy. We noticed that the menu did not list anything that was a side salad so we decided to share with the Little Gem Salad which are server assured us could feed 2 people. After watching several couples come and go, we realized that we had no food in f
Oh my goodness, I got my southern on at this place. The shrimp and grits were fantastic! I had greens and the jalapeno corn salad as my sides and they were huge. There is a lower rating on atmosphere just because it was incredibly noisy. BUT, it's in a dive that reminded me of restaurants I used to go to when I lived in Texas and Louisiana. The only menu option that was missing was fried okra, oh that and cornbread. They brag up their biscuits however 😉
