The Smithfield Inn and Tavern

Before COVID invaded our world, my wife and I routinely stayed at the Smithfield Inn for New Years Eve. The Wharf Hill Brewing Company, just down the street puts on a PIG drop countdown for New Years that is attended by several of the residents and those of us who discovered it years ago. The Wharf Hill Restaurant super good food as has the Smithfield Inn on past occasions. This year we returned for the first time since 2019 due in part to COVID and family health issues since that time. This time, as in the past we reserved seats for dinner. OMG, the food was out of this world this time. Their New Chef, Chef Gary, is fantastic. This is a review of only the Sprigg Room in the Garden House at Smithfield Inn, Smithfield, VA.||When we were unable to reserve a room set aside for wedding guests at another location, the receptionist there enthusiastically recommended this B&B. Before calling to check on availability I visited the website which provided photos of what appeared to be charming, clean, and nicely furnished rooms. The website also displayed a “Coastal Virginia Best of Readers’ Choice” awards 2021-2025. All seemed perfect so I called, spoke with the innkeeper, and reserved the room.||My goodness was I wrong. The room was nothing as pictured or described. The 12x12 room was so cramped from the bed, dresser, table, chair, and mini fridge my husband and I had to sit on the bed or squeeze against furniture to mo

I stayed at this Inn, also characterized as a bed and breakfast. Well, I got the bed but no breakfast or service to the room. A letter was given to me with the room key that had a phone number to call if anything was needed. The TV in the main bedroom didn’t work. I left a voicemail at the number provided asking for clean towels and more coffee for the coffee machine. Was there three days and no contact was made back to me nor was the room serviced as requested. For almost $300 per night this was a very disappointing stay for Thanksgiving weekend.

The perfect place to stay. Everything is walkable, good restaurants and great shops. Great for Christmas shopping. I do it every year. The staff are so kind and friendly. The dining elegant and delicious.

I have never felt such hospitality and costumer service ever in the hotel industry the lady I talked to on the phone to help me was sent straight from heaven she was the sweetest most helpful lady I wish I would have gotten her name this inn and their staff will make you feel straight at home.highly highly recommend to stay here.
