The Amish Homestead

I had a unique and enriching experience staying with the Ben and Emma. Learning about their culture was fascinating, and playing shuffleboard added a fun touch. Emma’s home cook meals were absolutely delicious. A peaceful retreat with genuine hospitality. I can’t wait to visit again. As for the one-star review given it appears to lack an appreciation for the authentic Amish culture offered at this establishment. The assertion of uncleanliness seems inconsistent with the genuine experience I encountered during my stay. I will be coming back again to visit.

We booked two nights with Ben and Emma and brought our two young children as a cultural learning experience, which I think is so important. We chose this bed and breakfast since we wanted as much interaction with our hosts as possible. We were definitely not disappointed! Ben and Emma treated us as friends and answered our questions without making us feel foolish. Ben brought us on a buggy ride and taught the kids to play shuffleboard. We all played board games together and spent the evenings talking and sitting around the fire. Emma made the most delicious meals and her meatloaf with homemade ketchup was to die for! Definitely take advantage of booking a dinner at the house. The second night we went out to eat and were regretting it the whole time.

This is definitely a very unique bed and breakfast. While most B&Bs have you seperated from the family, this B&B has you staying right with them and sharing their space. It really gives you a first hand look at the Amish lifestyle and allows you to lightly partake. There is no electricity but they do provide lights through battery and solar light. Which means no AC so bring a battery powered fan. Ben, the owner, took us on a buggy ride in a real buggy and then on a tour through the Amish countryside while teaching us about his community. Everything was clean and orderly in the house. Do not listen to those whose whole online presence is giving 1 star reviews. You can not get a more genuine Amish experience anywhere else in Lancaster.

The Amish Homestead was an incredibly unique opportunity to stay with an Amish family and learn a bit more about their way of life. The rooms were clean and spacious. I woke up the sound of the friendly goat baaa'ing and the spectacular array of colors of the sky in Lancaster. Pristine grounds, wonderful country area but very close to "civilization" if you want to pop out to restaurants or stores (I didn't even rent a car and just grabbed a Lyft). Ben and Emma are excellent hosts. Ben will answer any question you have! Emma is a great cook, and also an amazing hostess who will answer your questions. I learned so much!! And a wonderful buggy ride!! And fresh eggs from the hens. Ben is kind to his animals which I appreciated. And thank you Emma for being so kind when the pickled beets I boug

A great stay with a very welcoming couple who went out of their way to give us a great stay and comprehensive view of Amish life. Highlights included an (optional) tour of the local area incl. visits to local Amish shops, an (optional) horse and buggy ride, as well as a great experience for the b&b we booked for. Many thanks again for a great stay, and for being so welcoming into the Amish way of life.
