As Californians who fell in love with the siete mares soup at Ocha Thai back home, we’ve been on the hunt for a comparable one since 2021. We finally found it at ThaiAngle Restaurant! Their Po Tak soup, served in the traditional hot pot (just like the photo), blew us away. If you miss Ocha’s seafood lemongrass soup, you must try this. My husband is thrilled! We also enjoyed chicken satay, pad thai, fried rice, and the puff crab, which had an amazing curry cream cheese filling. The Thai tea was delicious as well. The staff was super friendly, and service was impressively quick for fresh-made food. If you’re from California or just love amazing Thai cuisine, this place is a gem. Five stars!
For parking, you will either have to park in a lot or find street parking. There was plenty of street parking on N Church Street and Cleveland Street which is located right behind the restaurant. My sister and I came in on a Friday night and we were pretty worried at first because there was a line almost out the door. But thankfully, we were seated within less than 10 minutes. We ordered the following: - Thai Iced Tea - Tom Kha Chicken - Pad See Ew The Thai iced tea was sweet and refreshing! As for the other 2 dishes, they were both delicious! I loved the presentation of the tom kha chicken and how the soup stayed nice and warm which is perfect for the chilly fall weather. I also appreciated how the soup was filled with mushrooms, chicken, and bamboo. And with all the lemongrass and spic
Great Thai food restaurant in Durham. The main dish have a spice rating that was easy to understand unlike other Thai restaurants. Now the food was fantastic and quick. We did eat on a Thursday after 6pm and it started getting crowded so I would get there early. Oh they also have a lunch menu I am going to have to try.
One of the best Thai restaurants we’ve eaten…great service with smiles, clean and quick service. We love noodles so we had the pad see ew, drunken noodles, pad Thai, noodles in braised beef broth, shrimp tom yum soup, fried wontons, fried calamari…everything was cooked to perfection and the noodle dishes all came with generous beef slices, great value for money…definitely going back if we’re in the area again.
When a restaurant in a college town is packed with patrons who are not college students, you might be on to something special. We arrived on a Sunday evening right at opening time and were very fortunate to be seated. The staff/ family were super friendly and accommodating. And the most important thing, the food, was next level delicious. Could not recommend a restaurant more. If you are in Durham, and you love Thai food, Thai Angle is a must!
