Southern Hickory Barbecue

Everything was good except for one item. I had also ordered a whole chocolate pie. When I opened the box at home, it didn't look like the chocolate pies that I have ordered in the past. It didn't have the topping on it and it looked like a browny. It was chocolate but not what I was expecting. It looked baked. I didn't call them to see if they had changed their recipe or added this type of pie to the selection. The other food purchased was great.

Every time I'm in town, I go out of my way to eat here. This time the turkey had so much hardened skin on it, half the meat of my sandwich was missing once I took it apart and pulled the skin off. The taste is also different. It is no longer pulled turkey. I won't go out my way to get it again.

I visited here last Monday for lunch while working in the Hartselle area. I had planned to eat inside but when I got there I realized it was much more of a drive through vibe so I went through the line and then drove to a nearby large lot and ate in my car. I'm honestly not sure if there's any indoor dining or not, but it worked out fine for me. They were reasonably busy at around 1 PM - maybe 3 cars ahead of me. I got through quickly enough and was able to place my order probably in less than 10 minutes. The menu isn't super easily viewable from the line so know what you want beforehand! The lady at the window was pleasant enough. I ordered a pulled pork potato and a large (they mean it when they say large!) sweet tea. I thought the price was VERY reasonable - I got out for only a

The last three times we have gotten BBQ from Southern Hickory our order has either been wrong or missing something. How difficult is it to get the sauces correct? We always get the same thing. For the sauces, I always request no thin red, rib sauce instead, and two white sauces. Today, there was thin red, two tiny single serving white sauces, and no rib sauce. Last time, no white at all, just one rib sauce. I have even asked before if there is rib and two whites before leaving the window. They always assure me that there is. I shouldn't have to sit at the window and unpack my order to make sure it is correct. After three failed attempts at getting it right, I'll check it each time from now on before driving away.

The food was good. Getting people to understand the difference in barbecue sauce and just something with some vinegar and spices in it is another. Also when you send somebody out to take orders at the car the least they could do is smile. And not act like they really hate to be there. I won't be back at this one. I'll stick to mine at Cullman. The picture at the bottom is what y'all call barbecue sauce. It tasted like pure vinegar with a little pork grease added to it and some spices. Thank God I ordered a pint of white sauce.
