Shepherd's Joy

We absolutely loved Shepherd's Joy! We were greeted by our host with homemade cookies and cider. She was very friendly, accommodating, and eager to help us find local restaurants and answer any questions we had about local activities in Abingdon. My favorite thing was her breakfasts. Phenomenal breakfasts!! The room was also very nice and the porch was wonderful to sit and read on. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!!

My husband and I visited the Abingdon area to celebrate our anniversary. Staying at Shepherd's Joy was definitely a highlight of the trip for us. Joyce and Jack were such hospitable hosts. Their home is very welcoming and beautiful. Our room was nicely decorated and very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent!! We had such a relaxing stay. ||||Joyce and Jack were also very helpful with suggestions on sights to see, things to do, and places to eat. We had a wonderful dinner at Rain Restaurant before enjoying a show at Barter Theater. Everything was within walking distance, and we enjoyed the stroll home after the show. We took a scenic drive to Breaks Interstate Park (upon their recommendation) and enjoyed beautiful views of the changing fall leaves. ||||Would highly recommend stayi

Shepherd's Joy was just that - a joy! Our room was spacious, quiet and very comfortable, plus the breakfast was delicious. Joyce is such a hospitable hostess. The beautiful historic home is an easy walking distance to the middle of town but settled in such a quiet area surrounded in green pastures. I would definitely stay there again when we return to Abingdon.

This 4 guest-room B&B has been restored to its original Victorian charm, but not in a "fussy" way. One feels completely comfortable and at home. The hosts are friendly without being intrusive, and Joyce's breakfast was simply superb. We didn't even think about lunch until well into the afternoon! We stayed in Abington b/c of the Barter Theatre, but we will return to spend some time walking the Virginia Creeper trail, and we will certainly stay at Shepherd's Joy again!

Joyce is the perfect, gracious hostess. This is not so much a business as it is her way of welcoming guests to her family home, making friends, and using her cooking skills to entertain. ||||We walked to the Barter Theatre one night and we were delighted and surprised as she met us at the front door of the theatre to provide a ride home during a tremendous storm.||||We recommend Shepherd's Joy highly. And Abingdon is a delightful town with arts, music, historic buildings and restaurants and with plenty of scenic outdoor attractions nearby.
