Richardson’s Cafe

We planned on only going in for ice cream because we loved the retro theme of this cafe, but we found ourselves here for lunch instead. We were seated immediately and I was excited to see lots of options for food including daily specials. Our food was fresh and delicious and service was fast. Our waitress was wonderful and checked in regularly and made sure that we were offered drinks to go which was a nice added bonus. We will definitely be back for ice cream AND food if we get to visit this charming town again.

Exactly what I would want from a Classic Diner experience. Great food (and fast), friendly staff, good prices. Topped off with a perfect to-go milkshake. Traveling alone, I sat at the counter.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here. They had two vegetarian options which was super unexpected but I was very grateful for. The first option, I forget what they called it but it was like a grilled cheese with all kinds of veggies inside was amazing! Quite possibly the best vegetarian meal I have had out and about ever! The chocolate milkshake left something to be desired, maybe it was just too chocolatey for my tastes? The server was very pleasant and the atmosphere was great! We felt very comfortable here. Overall the dining room was clean, and the bathroom was way cleaner then most places for sure! All in all we will be back the next time we are in Mathews.

eclectic diner style atmosphere. good food, I was celebrating my birthday and they gave me free ice cream. bathroom was clean and had a good balance of bible verses and marylyn Monroe pictures on the 🤦‍♂️ would visit again

Thee best crab cake in Virginia!!! Slaw was perfect. Fries were nice and salted just right. Awesome 50's Era atmosphere. Looks like you just step back in time. Service was fast and food was hot. Milkshakes were spot on. Can't wait to go back and have some really good down home food.
