I’ve been on the hunt for good soul food in the Seattle proper area and my goodness was I absolutely pleased with this place. In a cute homey part of Madrona, you’ll find Richard’s Too Good. From the excellent and most friendly service to the actual food, everything was amazing. Not going to lie I came in solely because of the picture of the mac and cheese and let me tell you..it did NOT disappoint. Richard’s Too Good has gained themselves a new loyal customer.
Richard’s Too Good BBQ is a revelation. You mean to tell me that ribs and brisket were supposed to taste this amazing?? Unbelievably delicious. And just because they really know what they’re doing with a smoker does not mean they neglect the sides. On the contrary, the sharp mac and cheese, fresh and crisp mango coleslaw, and plush and delicate cornbread were all created with the same obvious passion and skill. The plates were generous and though we were stuffed, we couldn’t help but finish every bite. Also, Richard is as nice a guy as you’d ever want to meet. It was almost a shame that service was so prompt, because it would have been nice to chat with him longer!
The brisket was great! The wings were too smokey for my wife, but I liked them. The greens were very good though I would have liked more with my plate. The cornbread was sweet yet not like a cake. The owner knows his stuff!
I’m not from Madison, but I do fancy some legit BBQ. I was in the area visiting friends and we decided to take a walk and hit the local playground with the kiddos. I got to the end of the block before I figured out what I was smelling. Smoky. Sweet. Meat. I did an immediate U turn with my son on my shoulders. We poked our heads in just to get another whiff before rejoining the group but Richard wasn’t gonna let us get away that easily. He offered a sample and we were off to the races. My phone was buzzing in my pocket. No time for that. The rest of the group will figure it out.. I’m on a secret mission with my four year old at this point. We both tried the brisket. Like Richard said- not too smoky, not too much seasoning - just right. Let the meat do some talking too. The BBQ sauce is
Food was really good. Had the brisket, which was very juicy. Also Richard is a good guy to talk to while preparing the food. Keep on the good vibes!
