Red Cardinal Bed and Breakfast

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Red Cardinal. Due to travel we had to check-in late but Bill and Joanne were wonderful at accomodating us and making us feel at home. The space was cozy and the room was spacious, clean, and full of charm. We were greeted with a delicious and locally-sourced breakfast while having conversation with the owners. Do ask Bill if he's ever been to Paris. Looking forward to our next stay here!

Billy and Joanne are kind, caring people who are living their best lives. They put all their love into this B&B and into their attention to their guests. I stay here when I am in town for work and have found it the perfect place to rest after long shifts. Joanne makes delicious breakfasts with many locally-sourced materials, including vegetables from her own garden and eggs from their chickens. The property is gorgeous and includes beautiful sunset views over farmland, and there are so many trails close by, including the AT. My drive to UPMC Carlisle from their place is only 11 minutes and much preferred to the lodging options there. My wife & I spent a wonderful weekend at the Red Cardinal recently. The location is really convenient to Carlisle, Gettysburg, and Shippensburg (where we happened to be seeing a show). Joanne and Billy were awesome hosts. They are so friendly and accommodating! Their home is beautiful. We would highly recommend the Red Cardinal and hope to return someday ourselves!

For AT hikers I highly recommend taking a zero day or nero day with Joanne and Bill. Their house is terrific — Bill takes meticulous care of it — and the guest rooms are really well-appointed and comfortable. My bed and bathroom were perfect. Loved the view from the back porch too. As for Joanne’s breakfast — wow! An omelette made with eggs from their chickens, with spinach and chard from their garden! Coffee ready beforehand! And the kicker was having time to shoot the breeze with Bill and Joanne. Ask them about Paris!!! I definitely want to come back and base a southern PA loop around Carlisle.

Bill& Joanne were both hosts that go the extra mile meeting your needs. They pay attention to details and anticipate your needs. We are elderly and they were gracious helping us carrying our bags, helping us up the steps. The food was yummy,Joanne makes a new bfast cake each day to top off your meal.Would recommend this B& B whenever you are in the area.
