Pho Today Plainsboro

On my first visit here for lunch, the staff was friendly and made a clear effort to be efficient. The food was generally decent, although parts of my dish were served at noticeably different temperatures. It seemed like the broth had been prepared separately and the meat, which was cold in the center, was added on top. Additionally, the smell in the restaurant wasn’t particularly pleasant, possibly due to the disinfectant used for cleaning or certain ingredients used in the kitchen. That said, the restaurant was very clean, which I appreciated. Overall, it was a good experience, but there are definitely a couple of things that could be improved.

If you live in or around Plainsboro, you likely know that the Asian Village shopping center is a hub for great food. However, finding a Vietnamese spot that treats vegetarian broth with the same respect as the beef versions can be a challenge. I recently visited Pho Today on Schalks Crossing Road, and I’m happy to report that it is a standout location for vegetarians, specifically if you look at their dedicated "Đồ Chay" (Vegetarian) section. ​Upon entering, the atmosphere is exactly what you want from a casual pho spot: bustling, energetic, and filled with the aromatic scent of star anise and basil. Delicious and fresh food. Attentive staff. Portions are huge too so come hungry. I added picture of receipt for price reference; the grilled beef on the side was approx. three portions of beef! Coconut juice came with fresh young coconut at the bottom of the cup 😋

This is hands down the best spot for pho in central NJ! The broth is rich, deeply flavorful, and clearly simmered to perfection. Every ingredient tastes fresh, from the tender cuts of meat to the crisp herbs that brighten each bite. The flavors are authentic, comforting, and absolutely delicious. The service is also fantastic—our food always comes out quickly and piping hot. It’s become our family’s go-to place whenever we crave Vietnamese food, and it never disappoints!

I am writing this review to share a disappointing experience regarding a food safety issue and the restaurant's failure to resolve it as promised. ​On August 12th, I ordered takeout from Pho Today. While eating my meal at home, I was shocked to discover a plastic water bottle cap mixed in with the rice after I had already consumed about three-quarters of the dish. ​I immediately called the restaurant, and the lady who answered was very apologetic. After I explained the situation, she took down my order information and assured me I would receive a refund for the affected meal. I appreciated her professional response and was willing to consider it an honest mistake. ​However, it is now August 25th, and after checking my credit card activity, the promised refund has not been processed. ​I
