Pepper House

What an amazing experience. Yuan the Manager was so welcoming and appreciative of me coming into her establishment. I loved the warm greeting, the staff made me feel like I was apart of the family. They were very attentive to my needs. The white rice and shrimp fried rice were so delicious and cooked to perfection. I had the shrimp malatang with mild spice and it hit the spot for this beautiful cold winter’s day. This dish was very healthy and bursting with flavor! I love spicy cabbage and this recipe did not disappoint. Tofu, spam, seaweed and lotus root……Oh My!

Because of its size and location, your first thought would probably be “wow this is a hidden gem” but Pepper House, though small, is mighty. They have plaques of recognition all of the over the restaurant. They’re ranked 11th best out of the 100 top Chinese restaurants in the US. Out of my own selfishness I wish it were bigger just to enjoy a night of great food with a big group of friends. I wouldn’t say that I’m an expert on Szechuan flavors but I’m a huge fan of chili oil, so much so that I make my own and aromatics are essential for a robust, flavorful chili oil. I was not disappointed when I ordered the extra spicy shrimp noodles. The noodle texture was perfect, the broth stayed piping hot, and it was SPICY in the best way possible. FYI - all of my photos were of our LEFTOVERS. There was at least twice as much sauteed cabbage, shrimp dry pot, and the dumplings had 13 to the order. -------------- The food was perfectly balanced. "Very spicy" isn't capsaicin very spicy, but full of flavor spicy. I asked and was told that is typical of Asian cooking to balance heat and flavor. The chengdu dandan noodles were inhaled before we could take a photo. They were the best I've ever had. And beautiful. Springy noodles, full of flavor. The sauteed cabbage was insanely delicious. It's such a humble vegetable, thrust into fame by their chili oil. Shrimp dry pot was full of vegetables and flavor. The chengdu dumplings in chili oil were 13 to the order, and I pretty much drank the chili oil. The Jasmine peach tea and jasmine mango tea

This store is spotlessly clean, to begin with. I ordered beef noodle and soup, my husband had the shrimp fried rice. Both were excellent each in their own way. The staff was very helpful start to finish. I would definately orðer here again and invite others who share an interest in this style of food

Pepper House cares about the quality of their food first and foremost. Happy people who work hard-and SUCCEED! The food is spicy (it is called Pepper House) and even the mild lowest level of spice leaves the lips tingling. Portions are large but don’t leave you stuffed. Few tables inside.
