And exceptionally family friendly, dog friendly and just plain friendly and well priced across from the Asilamar conference center and State Beach (there's a little path across the street into Asilomar). A range of rooms, all of which are clean and pleasant, if not particularly luxurious. It's our go-to place to stay for exploring the Monterey area, especially with our dog. Not fancy, but very nice.
This is not a five star hotel and the reviews here noting it's age and narrow stairs - good grief. It does not advertise itself as a new motel with all the bells and whistles. If they upgraded, it would cost 400/night or more. So please rate it as you should: great people, great location, accommodating staff, comfy beds, clean bathrooms, FIREPLACES!, with wood!, breakfast, happy hour, pet-friendly, ice machine, AFFORDABLE and so on. Walking distance to a beautiful coastline and DT Pacific Grove. Just lovely.
We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a Californian road trip.||The environment here is relaxing and natural. One afternoon we saw deer, squirrels, a woodpecker and hummingbirds from our balcony.||You will need a car to get around as it a 5-10 minutes drive from downtown Monterey.||There was a wood fireplace in our room although we did not use it. If you are into them it would be cosy, particularly in winter.||Breakfast was basic but adequate.||The staff/owners were very welcoming and friendly.
We stayed at the inn for 2 nights and the main reason I picked that place was the great reviews it received. Now, it’s a very nice place, with very big rooms, nice fireplace, clean, and nice service from most of the staff. It’s located 10 minutes from Monterey fishermen’s wharf and right by the 17 miles drive. However, the place looks very old and in serious need to renovate. The outside looks pretty bad compared with other nearby inns, and the rooms need some work, like the carpet, walls. Power outlets can’t hold a plug, shower head should be replaced and so on. No AC in the rooms!!! So don’t come on hot days. Breakfast is pretty basic - nice pastries, coffee, cereals, waffles, hard boiled eggs. Parking can be trouble if you arrive late. It seems they are a couple of parking spaces short,
This place is lovely but the bed was super uncomfortable. The mattress felt very thin and I didn't get a good night's sleep as the windows are also thin and people were outside early making noice. The rooms are super old fashioned and could benefit from a little update. That being said, the service is wonderful and the location is good and very close to the beach.
