The Charles Pacific Grove

This inn was a fine place to stay for a few nights. It's well situated and an easy walk to anywhere in Pacific Grove. Communication by phone before the visit was a little clunky. The room was spacious enough, but smelled both musty and of cleaning products. The bed was very firm and bedding was clean but not fancy. The breakfast was abundant but not great. Espresso drinks on request were a nice touch. The wine reception in evenings was a lovely chance to relax at the end of the day and visit with other guests in the comfortable sitting area, wine was good, and snacks were fine. Paola the manager and Alexandra (sp?) who provided weekday breakfast were both very warm and welcoming -- we enjoyed talking with them. Some aspects of the decor are historic, others are dated and a little run down.

We spent four fabulously comfortable and decadent four nights at The Charles in Pacific Grove. The rooms are beautifully decorated with a nod to the age of the building (1904). Historic photographs of Pacific Grove line the hallways. The lounge is comfortable and the late afternoon wine and snacks added to the conviviality. Breakfasts were varied and fresh. The breads and quiche were yummy. The beds are soft and at night you can hear the faint crash of the waves on the shore. The hotel is in walking distance to an array of restaurants. The house-managers and staff were very welcoming and friendly. We will come again if we come back to the area.

We (2 couples) stayed at The Charles 3 nights from Feb. 24 - 27 as the beginning of our road trip down the coast via Highway 1. All of us enjoyed our stay there very much. The service, the rooms, the breakfast, and the 4 o'clock wine hour with a very nice charcuterie board just add to the excellent experience of staying there. It's also very secure as entry to the main house and your room is coded, not to mention the Police dept. and Fire dept. are right across the street. If we are ever going to be/stay in the Monterey area, we will definitely stay there again. We all agree that we would highly recommend staying there if or when in the area. I can't think of a single negative about it.

Absolutely loved staying here - The Charles Pacific is a true bed and breakfast that goes above and beyond! The service all around was fantastic - kudos to the staff here! The breakfast was abundant, fresh and beautifully presented. The social hour was a pleasant surprise to mingle with other guests and enjoy a spread of goodies! We visited in late November, so we had the windows cracked to keep it cool (we like to sleep cool). They also provided a fan for the room, which was a nice convenience. I would intentionally plan another trip back to Pacific Grove just to be able to stay here again. Thank you!

We had a wonderful 3 day girls trip here. The service is outstanding and the staff is very friendly. We enjoyed the breakfast each morning and the offer of expresso and/or cappuccino. Our room was comfortable. It’s close to everything! The nightly wine and snacks hit the spot. The late night chocolate chip cookies were a nice touch. It’s quiet, charming, and restful.
