As an author of police fiction, a retired policeman, a teacher of detective fiction, as well as a life long habitual reader devoted to it, my curiosity was aroused when I discovered "The American Police Novel", by Leroy Lad Panek on the web. I ordered a copy and was instantly intrigued by Panek's fascinating account of the evolution of police fiction and analysis of its components past and present.
