Jo's American Bistro

My mom came to celebrate her birthday week and I was determined to find a spot to have dinner in Newport. We immediately liked the warm and quiet atmosphere. Our server was excellent and refilled our water often and answered questions we had about the menu. There were a lot of options on the menu that looked good. I decided to try the Sausage & Orecchiette Pasta and my mom picked the Butternut Squash Agnolotti. The portions were average sized with incredible flavors. We splurged and each got a dessert. She had the olive oil cake with berries. It was a touch in the dry side but the flavor and the fruit were perfect. I had the peach bread pudding which was so delicious and perfect for a cold winter evening. This will definitely be a place plan to eat at every time she visits in the future. T

My boyfriend and I came for dinner while on vacation and everything was AMAZING! Our server, Darius, went above and beyond to make sure my meal was free of my many allergens. The pork chop was hands down the best I’ve ever had - even cooked medium well it was juicy and flavorful. Such a wonderful meal to start our vacation!

A very nice dinner in this quaint and simple elegant designed restaurant. We had the clam chowder and lobster bisque to start, lobster carbonara for me and butternut squash agnolotti for my wife. Dessert of cappuccino cheesecake and peach bread pudding. All delicious and well proportioned. Friendly and timely a service in a neat area of the city.

We stopped into Jo’s American Bistro around 3:30 in the afternoon and enjoyed a relaxed, unhurried early dinner. Parking was street only, as expected in Newport, but since it’s the off-season it wasn’t an issue at all. I started with the New England clam chowder. The flavor was excellent — rich, balanced, and clearly well-crafted. The broth had that comforting depth you hope for in a proper chowder. My only disappointment was portioning of the clams themselves; I counted just three. With a chowder this good, I simply wanted more of what made it special. This place is absolutely delicious. My husband and I celebrated our 12th anniversary here back in May. Our waitress was so attentive and sweet. She treated us like family. We started a few apps.... Duck and lobster quesadilla, the flavors work so well together. I was shocked. The lobster bisque was some of the best we've ever had and the portion of lobster was well worth the price. The calamari was cooked absolutely perfect didn't even need a sauce. For the entrees, hubby has the lobster carbonara was fantastic. And the pork chops were too die for. The bacon onion jam worked so well with the Brussels and sweet potato.
