But don’t say I didn’t warn you. This place doesn’t invite you in so much as it dares you to keep up. First off, the barkeep — absolutely glorious. Bold, commanding, the kind of woman who could pour your beer, win an arm-wrestling match, and settle an old family feud, all before last call. She ran the bar like a ship’s captain steering straight into the storm — and we were happy to be along for the ride. We drank beer. We threw darts. Classic rural Wisconsin tavern with a storied history-- raided by the Feds in 1932 at the tail end of prohibition. Still serving drinks to this day. Great Friday night fish fry. Not too crowded on a cold winter night, but indoor seating is limited (and maybe 4 tables, plus the bar), so I don't know what it would be like in the tourist season.

Great bar and atmosphere! Cold drinks, great food. Excellent service. Try the pizza, you will not be disappointed. I liked the BBQ chicken pizza, it was loaded with cheese. Pool table for entertainment, touch tunes jukebox and plenty of parking. Have a GOOD TIME at the Institute Saloon!

Great little dive bar, we stopped and got drinks and appetizers, drinks where Great and very good prices, the appetizer were very good as well, no off taste from the grease. Service was typical Wisconsin, very good and very friendly. Felt like home.

Came to get food with my husband. The daughter who wasn't working or atleast I didnt think so cause she was shooting darts was the one to finally go get her dad to get us drinks. Once we had those and got our menus we sat for 20 minutes watching the owner take care of the same couple of people as well as himself. It was not that busy there. We paid for our drinks and left. If I could give them 0 stars I would. If your not a institute saloon regular dont count on being noticed!
