FRÍO Gelato - Wilmette

I’m a foodie, always down to explore unique flavors. And this place has many. Cafe con Leche, figs with cognac, Merlot with berries -YES! That one was my favorite. The authenticity of coffee and wine was very interesting to find in ice cream. The only thing I missed was the basic, crispy cones (they might’ve been out I didn’t ask) - the ones they had were way too sweet.

Amazing high quality gelato! Each flavor is very rich and tasty. There is a non-dairy section of sorbets (including non-dairy chocolate) which is yummy & inclusive for those who don't do dairy. I highly recommend getting the dulche de leche gelato-- it is their best flavor and very authentic to the Argentine roots (my buddy from Argentina can attest 😆)! They also serve some unique flavors such as cheese and honey, so regardless of if you're looking for simple flavors or adventurous ones, this is the place. A small size comes with two flavors so you can mix or match. In my experience it has never been too busy or overcrowded; the service is good and the place is clean. I’m writing a review not because of the product but because of a negative experience I had tonight. I love FRÍO gelato and have gone to the Evanston and Wilmette locations many times. Tonight, however I walked in with my family at 8:55 right before they were closing. They took our orders and another family walked in at 8:59. They said ‘we’re closed’ though they were open until nine. The family was very put out, kids disappointed at it wasn’t yet 9. I almost canceled my order cause I thought it was super rude. If you’re closed, then flip the sign over on the door or lock the door. In a small town community on a beautiful Friday night it just seemed cold. The gelato is great, but the brusque negative attitude turned me off.

The ice cream was SO TASTY and there were cute places to sit. I went with a group after church, and the service was super fast and great!

Lovely, clean inviting minimalist decor. Loved the blackberry chocolate chip but they took it away. Very nice to have this place nearby to walk to. It's a little frustrating, though, because their website isn't updated with the flavors that are actually available. i have given up trying because when they do post a flavor of the month, it's never available at this location. I went three times in July to get lemon basil and all three times, they didn't have it. The employee said they didn't have it but maybe other locations did.
