The French Market Restaurant is wonderful little hometown place to have lunch or dinner. The service was a little slow, but once seated they were very attentive and timely bringing out our order. The atmosphere reminds me of a small southern eateries with big mama in the kitchen and the food will have you asking for more. I had the seafood gumbo and the shrimp poboy sandwich. The gumbo was nicely seasoned, could have been a little thicker and richer, but the poboy was just right with that special mayonnaise to go with it. The price was, in a word, family friendly. When you get to New Orleans enjoy the food, shops, museums, and all that city has to offer.
Pros: - Quality of food: Authentic and Delicious. We ordered charbroiled oysters and jambalaya. - Service: Quick and Friendly Staff - Smells amazing before you even enter the restaurant - the open boil window to the street draws you in! Cons: - Bathrooms filthy and no soap or paper towels I would rate 5 star based on the pros. But hygiene is important (especially in food service). Thankfully, I had a bottle of hand sanitizer in my bag.
Casual place. We had lunch there. Food was below average. Fish had bad taste like it was spoiled. I told our server Carl R about this issue, but he ignored it and just kept pushing us to order drinks from the bar. Also, thay used a cheap trick to make a dish volume visually bigger. They put three chunks of bread on the bottom of the plate and cover bread with fried seafood. 🙄 Check my photos. Nothing special about this place.
Great New Orleans food with Saints playing. I had the catfish po boy and my wife had the burger. The highlight was the boudin balls and the bread pudding. Outrageously good! We had a great meal. Our server was there at every turn and again boudin!
Paige was our bartender at the The Market Cafe. What a fantastic experience! We came twice and really enjoyed her personality and hospitality! Of all the places to drink in the French Quarter, we chose to return here a second time. What a wonderful spot to people watch and enjoy a great drink and listen to great music. Plus, Paige is excellent at what she does- making people feel welcome! Thanks, Paige for making our day!
