I go there from time to time because my daughter takes music lessons nearby. I like it here, they’re very nice, but bring headphones. It’s hard to concentrate because the library staff is very chatty with each other, and not quietly chatty. When I was a kid, we were always told to whisper when we entered a library. It’s not that way here, to say the least.
It's been years since I last visited the Duxbury Free Library. The last time I was there was when it was still housed in the old building down the street, now named after a local philanthropist and repurposed to house the archives and document collection of the local historical society. However, after signing up our kid for a sports clinic at the nearby Duplex, we've been to the library several times, and I must say, it's an impressive place. The children's room is fantastic, with a wide range of classic and recently published books, cool kid-friendly technology, and a kid-centric library of things. It's so engaging that we have to pry our child away to join her friends for sports. Despite being more inclined towards the online resources of the Old Colony Library Network in my old age, I'
I take the little girl I nanny to story hour, and the librarians are so kind and patient with all the kiddos, reading books, singing songs, and playing some games. They keep the play areas squeaky clean, there are books, coloring pages, puzzles and trains! They even set up some super cute crafts!
Friendly, helpful librarians. Interlibrary loan. An assortment of non-book items to check out (Binoculars! Cake pans! Looms!). Activities for young and old alike. Funny street sandwich board. All this and lots of books in a nice facility?! We are so lucky.
Friendly and knowledgeable helpful staff provide a wealth of information whenever we visit. The DFL is a lovely public space and is a gem in our community. Great programs offered online and in person.
