Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen

Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed with Cheddar’s. I was looking for good food in Iowa City, and this place was highly ranked with solid reviews, so expectations were high. The ambiance was very nice with a large fish tank and cozy booth seating. Service was excellent—both the host and our waitress were very attentive and welcoming. The food, however, was where things fell short. I ordered the lemon pepper chicken with broccoli casserole and mashed potatoes. My father had chicken tenders, shrimp, and a loaded baked potato. He really enjoyed the potato and tenders, but said the shrimp was a definite skip. My broccoli casserole was extremely bland, the rice bed had uncooked crunchy pieces, and the mashed potatoes were just okay. The chicken itself was decent in flavor but unfortunat

Traveling and staying at a nearby hotel. First time at a Cheddar’s and it did not disappoint. Thomas provided friendly and attentive service. The house complimentary croissants were deliciously flaky and buttery. The side salad served in chilled bowls with delicious creamy Ranch dressing was delightful. The shrimp Alfredo pasta was creamy and loaded with perfectly grilled shrimp and crisp tender broccoli. The blackened fish was crispy and cooked perfectly. Definitely a great dining experience.

Food was bland and lacked flavor but the chicken was moist. The whole building could use a good dusting especially the fan area as it was covered with spider webs and dust. The bathrooms were gross...poop smeared in the stall walls that has obviously been there for a while as there was dust all over in there too. Such a shame such a beautiful building could be so dirty.

First time eating here and the atmosphere did not match the food. The server seemed overwhelmed despite only a few tables being occupied and a handful of servers drifting around. The apps took a while and were warm at best and not very flavorful (Cheese balls and artichoke dip) so I decided to save myself for my burger. Got the bacon cheeseburger and queso fries for my meal(took a while) The queso fries were again warmish the fries were kind of soggy but after a long day of shopping 7 months pregnant I WAS STARVING. As soon as I bit into my burger though, I almost lost them. The burger had 1 strip of bacon, no sauces and the meat tasted/felt like rubber. I normally dont say anything but had to send it back. Both food and server were supper nice, food came out fast and hot. High recommend cheese curds and bourbon salmon, I’m not a big fan of rice, but bourbon sauce was so tasty, I finished my rice with shrimp and salmon. All the sides came with food were really good too. Only thing we didn’t really like was the chicken pot pie, it’s not bad, but the crust in the middle was a little bit undercooked
