La Mexicana

To go order with the main mission of trying some Chicharrones. They serve them on weekends so keep an eye on their social media for reminders. My spouse picked up the food and we ordered extra for leftovers. The Chicharrones are tasty with the skin extra extra crispy and the meat chunks were tasty with some smaller chunks drier but overall would order them again. The guacamole super good in general and goes well with the chicharrones. We ordered tamales which we are saving for tomorrow. The choripollo and chile relleno were good. Lots of other items to try that look delish.

Exceptional, authentic food. Unbelievable tamales, tacos, birria, and service. The employees are fantastic. We stopped after a Hawkeye Football game, Jose and Manuel ensured we had everything we needed. This is now a definite stop for us when visiting Iowa City. Can't wait to go back.

In town for a funeral and wanted a good Mexican restaurant for dinner during our stay. This restaurant serves authentic Mexican food at reasonable prices. We came from Arizona where we have many options for this cuisine. This restaurant would rank among the top even in that market. Atmosphere was okay and service was great. Felt like the staff really cared about their product and service. I/we highly recommend this restaurant. It is attached to a market but don’t let that stop you from indulging in their superior food and service. Margaritas are good also!

By far our favorite Mexican spot in town! The food is very authentic at a reasonable price and the management is always so welcoming. My favorite go-to-dish is the mojarra a la diabla.

After looking at reviews, we decided to try here today as we were passing through. Amazing food and service. The salsa is the best we have had, the pico was made to order. We will be back to try more things when we are in the area again.
