We absolutely love Sunday Brunch at Cafe on the Common. The French Press coffee is always perfect, the deviled eggs with local hot sauce are absolutely crave-able, and the ever changing quiche and savory bread pudding is always a welcome surprise. Thoughtful touches like fresh orange and pomegranate seed garnishes are a total delight. We drive a half hour past many other breakfast spots to enjoy the scratch cooking, cozy dining room, and super warm hospitality of these sweet owners. Well worth the drive from wherever you are. Spend a few tranquil moments strolling on the common, checking out the shops, and sitting on a park bench under a big oak tree after brunch.
There was a torrential downpour the Saturday I visited, but it seemed like every table was seated. People were cheerful and talking and laughing and enjoying their food. I started with a cocktail that was made with Satan’s Brew (from Deep Roots Distillery), sweet and dry vermouth, homemade cherry simple syrup and garnished with a slice of blood orange and a stemmed cherry. Delectable! I ordered a cup of cream of asparagus soup and it was beautiful too. It was garnished with three asparagus tips that had a little char on them. Just perfect. For my entree I ordered one of several specials: rabbit, wild rice and roasted beets. Amazing. Then I finished with a huge slice of warm homemade cherry pie topped with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream. Everything was just perfect,—including the atm
I have been here 3 or 4 times now and it's always fantastic. Tons of gluten free options (most everything), delicious home made food and tasty drinks as well. I took my mother yesterday for lunch and we both loved it. I had the Tomato Soup which was super hearty and possibly the best I've ever had and I also had the Reuben which comes with Kimchi and is grilled panini style, so good! Washed it all down with an Herbal Tea Hot Toddy which was perfect on a cold winter day. The place is super cute, great atmosphere, husband and wife owned. What more could you ask for?! Next time you're in the area, make sure to stop in and check out the Commonplace Market next door while you're there !
My boyfriend and I were excited to try Café on the Common, but the experience was frustrating from start to finish. The restaurant is very small and loud, with music blasting inside. The only seating option was outside unless we wanted to sit at the bar. After about five minutes, our waitress came to take our drink orders. I asked for a coffee with cream and sugar and a juice, and my boyfriend ordered the same. Strangely, after writing everything down, she asked me again what my drink order was. A little odd, but I brushed it off. About 10 minutes later, our drinks arrived—but my coffee came in a French press with no mug. I couldn’t drink it until 20 minutes later, when the waitress finally noticed and brought the mug over, saying “Oops, I forgot.” I tried to stay patient, assuming she w
I visited alone & love checking out new places, especially locally owned venues. Charming, friendly atmosphere, great food & top notch service. So many thoughtful touches, including a jar of flossers in the restroom! Every member of the staff, including the chef, took time to check in with me and made we feel welcomed. I had a cappuccino, cream of asparagus soup, sweet potato with walnuts, flatbread veggie pizza (which the chef informed me included foraged MOREL MUSHROOMS that someone had gifted them earlier that day!), & brought home a lemon blueberry scone that I enjoyed the next day. As an added treat, my visit was on a Saturday during a very engaging live music performance. Wonderful setting for individuals, couples and families. There's also a handful of outdoor tables with umbre
