Broad Street Deli Altavista

An excellent Philly. As someone who has enjoyed them my entire life, I can confidently say this one stands out. The owners and staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The food was outstanding, with generous portion sizes that easily make a single order feel like two meals. While I’ve seen some complaints about various aspects of the restaurant, in my view those qualities are part of what defines an authentic East Coast deli experience. Yes, the prices are a bit higher, but given today’s dining landscape—and the substantial portions provided—they are more than reasonable. This place is truly a gem.

Thanks to all of you folks! The cashier was so sweet and patient as this was our first visit but will certainly not be the last. I have read the reviews before I am posting mine. I too was taken aback with the prices at first, but what Steak & Cheese! A huge basket of fries & onion rings! All was cooked to perfection! I grew up in Fairfax County, frequented "Andy's Pizza" in Annandale, Never had a better steak & Cheese until today at Broad Street Deli in Alta Vista. We will definitely be back. Thanks to Tammy for the extras! We are retired, eat out often and it makes my belly so happy when we find these little diamonds in the rough. I can't believe people aren't waiting in line out the door. We loved it!

I was excited to try this local Philly cheesesteak spot in Altavista , but it ended up being a letdown. The steak was overcooked and dry, with barely any seasoning, and the cheese tasted like it was just slapped on without even melting properly. The roll was soggy on one side and stale on the other, like it had been sitting out way too long. On top of that, the wait was almost 30 minutes for a simple sandwich, and the staff didn’t seem organized or very welcoming. For the price, I expected something hot, fresh, and flavorful — not something that felt rushed and low effort.

My husband and I stopped in today for the first time. We were greeted by smiling faces and welcomed to the restaurant He order a Triple Cheesesteak and I had a Mushroom Cheesesteak. At first, we were a little concerned about the price…. and then our order came out! Holy cow! We each ate half for lunch and the other half for dinner today. (Wrapped in foil and popped in the oven for about 10 mins at 350° and it tasted just as good as when it was freshly served to us.) Each sandwich was served on a nice soft roll and piled high with fillings. We will definitely be back. (I didn’t think to take a photo when they first brought us our food. This is just half of my sandwich in my basket!)

It’s wonderful to have another option for food in this town! We got the Chef Hoagie and Cheesesteak Hoagie and made them both a combo (comes with fries and drink). We took it home and were wonderfully surprised at how much food there was! One sandwich could feed two people. So needless to say we had enough for dinner the next night. I would definitely recommend and we will be back.
