Briar Patch Bed & Breakfast Inn

Location is great. Middleburg Va is a great little town to visit. Great toy store and great Oyster Bar restaurant. The B&B at Briar Patch was a great time. Rooms were awesome, kitchen with plenty of things to help fix your own meals. Owners were friendly and breakfast was great. I was on a special diet and they took great care in fixing a breakfast for me. The property could use a little help but the important things were right. The rooms were in excellent condition and very clean. We would stay again without a second thought.

My teenage daughter and I were looking for a quick, last minute long weekend getaway to the Middleburg area and we booked two nights at the Briar Patch. We arrived travel weary after a long drive and Dan was so kind! This is the kind of place you come to to feel safe and cared for and unplug and unwind. The setting is beautiful and as horse farmers we felt instantly at home. The rooms are quaint and homey and Dan served us the most amazing breakfast with better pancakes than I make (as per my daughter) and a wonderful chance to chat with other guests. This is not a faceless hotel or an anonymous resort, it is a chance to be welcomed into a home and we loved our stay! We stayed here for a wedding we were attending. It's a great spot to house a bunch of people and the rooms were a good size with multiple bathrooms to chose from. However the fridge in the main house could use a major deep clean and I woke up in the morning with a rash from the bedding that did not go away for several days after leaving the property. Would definitely recommend bringing your own sheets and pillowcases if you're staying here.

The host and his brother are very kind and friendly. Our bed in the Rooster Room was very comfortable. Unfortunately, the entire home and grounds are dirty and aging. The best word I can use is "tired". The eggs at breakfast were good, but the reheated store-bought pastries looked like they had been left over. Windows, especially in the office, as well as the desks, doors, and floors, require cleaning. The back patio needs a thorough cleaning, the clutter needs to be removed, and the faded, worn-out umbrella needs to be replaced. The window curtains in our room were tattered at the top. The caulking around the tub needs replacing. The weeds in the garden need to be removed, and the bushes need trimming. Finally, the unlicensed vehicles need to be removed from the property. We were very much looking forward to staying at this historic B&B built in 1805. However, the overall experience was very disappointing. The host was kind and pleasant but the home was not well cared for and could use a deep cleaning with repairs. In addition, the breakfast was extremely sub par especially for the high cost of the room: fruit, stale cereal, spoiled milk, grocery store pastries and a small amount of scrambled eggs. It wasn't even ready at 9am when we were told breakfast would be served! The owners must either hire a cook and a cleaner or lower their prices. This B&B clearly was well run at some point but is now resting on its laurels. Sadly I would not recommend this place to others.
