Gorgeous beach and tons of shells. Small parking lot $5/hour paid by app. Highly recommended on captiva or Sanibel

Great shelling. People found wonderful shells. Go at low tide.. Wear water shoes to walk out to the sand bar. Found this gem. Saw dolphins, pelicans, sea gulls.

Sanibel Island, located outside of Ft. Myers, FL is a small island community that is dependant on tourism and that was devastated by Hurricane Ian in 2022. Famous for its sea-shell rich beaches, it is coming alive again, with several local shops and restraurants opening (including island bicycle rentals). We weren't sure what to expect when we got across the toll bridge, and though there is still a lot of work to be done, houses repaired, and business opened, we were happy to see that the Wildlife Refuge, trails and CROW were all open and welcoming visitors again. There are beaches open to the public now as well and they are just as beautiful as they were before.

This is a great place to shell although it may not look like it at first glance as it's not as full of shells like Sanibel by the resort. You gotta dig into the sand walls by the water, especially near the corners of the beach going east. We didn't go at low tide but this would be ideal for being able to walk out further and possibly she'll further from the beach. A negative was that we had a difficult time getting parking around 8am and both lots on either side of the bridge. There do not appear to be other options from the lots as neighboring roads have posted signage forbidding beach parking. Luckily we were guests of San Cap Rentals which gave us access to Tween Marina and Resort. We parked there and were given bikes for free to ride down. They also have a golf cart $5 per person to
