Black Walnut

Black Walnut offers a truly unique dining experience, from its ambiance to its menu. The place is in a league of its own. We were fortunate to secure a spot at the chef’s table, where we could witness the team’s meticulous preparation of our food in real-time. Every dish was a masterpiece, with each ingredient thoughtfully chosen and artfully presented. The fact that everything was locally sourced added an extra layer of magic to the meal. The staff was incredibly friendly, and even the owner took the time to check in and ensure everything was going smoothly. Overall, Black Walnut is an amazing place that we would happily return to Callicoon just to enjoy their exceptional cuisine.

We had dinner at Black Walnut during our stay in Callicoon and it was one of the best dining experiences of our trip. The restaurant has a beautiful, relaxed atmosphere that blends old-world design with modern comfort. The space itself feels special — high tin ceilings, soft lighting, and thoughtful details that make you want to slow down and enjoy every moment. The menu changes with the seasons, and everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Service was friendly without being overbearing, and the cocktails were some of the best we’ve had in the Catskills. Callicoon’s historic small-town charm pairs perfectly with this kind of refined, yet approachable dining. Black Walnut is the kind of place you plan a trip around — and we’ll definitely be back.

Talk about luxury! This restaurant is top tier for customer service and taste. On top of the immaculate/impeccable vibes, they were able to host my close friends wedding that I had the pleasure of photographing a few weekends ago with delicious food and wonderful full service drinks. I'd highly recommend renting this great spot out for private events and/or weddings! Support local business! Support Black Walnut : )

Fantastic addition to Callicoon. The food is really special and they have the cocktails to match. I'd say it's perfect for a date night or a special evening with close friends. The restaurant is a little bit hidden behind a furniture store. All staff have been super nice every time we have been there. Can't wait to go back.

Went with girlfriend. We both got what we thought were entrees. Serving sizes for individual items were extremely light. It was not clear to me at the time that portions were small, think tapas. If you dine here, order more than you think you will need and it will be just right. They reached out to me personally. Good people that care about their business. We will be back. Food was extremely well made, same with the drinks. Reservations needed, but if you get lucky they will seat you a little past 8:30 which was nice. Offered me a credit for my own confusion, but did not accept. Overall a very nice dining experience, just order more food. Pricey, but worth it.
