I must say that I was less than impressed on my last trip to Zaftigs. I had not been in a while, and when my friend wanted to have lunch at Zaftigs, I decided to give it another try after being disappointed several years ago. Unfortunately, Zaftigs has not improved and may have slipped further. The decor is busy, with hardscape elements that echo, making conversation at a small 2-top almost impossible. The tables are quite close together, so if it were quieter, you would be part of your neighbor's conversation as well. I had the Rachel sandwich that was soggy and pretty tasteless. I upgraded to the potato pancake-a huge mistake. It was an inedible hockey puck. Our server was pleasant but not very attentive, and never questioned why the potato pancake only had a bit out of it. Came here in search of a chili and they delivered. Overall had a very good experience at Zaftig’s - the service was very kind, professional and quick and the food prices were reasonable for the portion size. We started off with chili and latkes. Both were very good - the chili is exactly what we were looking for with a homemade feel, and the texture of the latkes was very good. General comment that the food could use a bit more spices and salt (not overly impressed with flavors), but definitely a chill breakfast/lunch spot.

Friendly and amazingly quick response and delivery. High energy staff. I had delicious omlette filled with cheddar cheese and slices of MacIntosh apples - delicious combo! I had this with the include side salad and pumpernickel toast. My wife had a scrumptious Eggs Benedict. I had a coffee (black) and she had a Diet Coke.

Overall, the experience was just okay. The food was normal, nothing surprising for a breakfast place. The service was quite slow, and the waiters seemed a bit indifferent to us. We had to make a lot of effort to get their attention, starting from ordering. The staff were always chatting among themselves and didn’t really look around to see if anyone needed help.
