Vanderwende Ice Cream

Anytime is ice cream time! This location is mainly open during the summer months. It is a great pitstop to break up the drive from the city to the beach, or vice versa. Vanderwendes makes some of the best farm-fresh ice cream around. It can get busy at times but its always worth the stop. I order some Peanut Butter Fudge Crunch in a waffle cone today. It was so good! Prices are reasonable for what you get. The staff mainly consists of younger kids working their summer jobs and they are fairly friendly, and helpful.

We stopped at Vanderwende’s and loved it! The ice cream was rich and creamy — I had cookies & cream and cupcake in a cup, while my partner enjoyed a waffle cone with mint chocolate chip and chocolate chip cookie dough. The waffle cone was sturdy and didn’t fall apart or drip from the bottom or sides, and both flavors were perfectly balanced without being overly sweet. The scoop sizes were generous and satisfying. What makes this place extra special is the “farm to scoop” — it’s a local gem with that authentic charm. Parking is a bit limited, and I can imagine it gets busy in the summer, but it’s worth it. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and we really enjoyed the lovely outdoor seating area. Such a cute spot, and we’ll definitely be coming back!

When you get two scoops of ice cream, they cram it all into a bowl meant for one scoop. Aside from being an absolute mess as the ice cream melts over the sides and defeating the purpose for getting a bowl. You also can only have one flavor at a time and that ruins the whole experience of getting two scoops. You can’t even access your second scoop because it is completely buried under the first scoop that’s crammed in there so tightly that there’s no way to get to it. I was very disappointed and expected better.

Went there today 10/5, profile page says they are open. Drove all the way from Dover, only to pull up and realize they aren’t even open. Be professional and list your hours of operation accurately. Shouldn’t be that hard. Thanks for the wasted trip.

My only complaint is that a single scoop is HUGE! Will have to spend and extra 30 at the gym tomorrow. Definitely worth it. Very creamy and delicious ice cream. Will definitely be stopping by again soon.
