Tuckahoe Public Library

Great space and patrons are generally well behaved. Tuckahoe Library recently board changed the rules for access to common spaces that aren’t booked. Hopefully they change it back!

I don't write negative reviews but after three visits were I felt profiled, I need to speak up. This is my community library. On my first visit, before I even reached the desk, the staff called out, "Can I help you?" I said I wanted to get a library card. She told me to go to my local branch, I smiled and showed her my drivers license and she just said "Oh," with no warmth. I felt unwelcome. Another librarian, sensing the vibe, stepped in kindly and even gave me a tour. On my second visit, as I parked, a librarian that was also parking told me that the lot was for patrons only. I said that I am a patron, and she just scoffed. Unnecessary and dismissive. On my third visit, the front desk called out "Can I help you?" before I got to the counter. I asked to use the printer. Great selection of books and helpful staff.

Happy to update my review of Tuckahoe Library since its major update of their facilities. Big positives are: new semi private meeting rooms; separate adult and children's section; spotless bathrooms; stellar water fountain; first class check-out system and expanded hours Wish there was more windows to give the place more natural lighting; personal desk cubicles in the book stacks for those who want to read in private; more quiet in the seating areas next to book checkout, it can get a little irritating to hear checking out process; and no Sunday hours. In sum, Tuckahoe citizens now have a much improved facility while maintaining a customer friendly staff. My star review is 4.5 from a former 3. This was my former review from 7/2023. Friendly staff, great selection of books, lots of events catered to the entire family. There's a children's area with comfortable chairs/cushions, crafts, and toys for them to play with. The restrooms are very cleanly.
