Trokay

This is my favorite restaurant in California. I’ve had there tasting menus twice, and each time it was a new, miraculous experience. Their food is exquisite, the service is nice, and the ambiance is as expected. It’s a hidden gem in truckee and if you have the time and money I’d highly recommend it. It is worth the price, without a doubt. I had a pine ice dish about 2 years ago as one of the dessert courses and it was like eating the best blue bird powder day ever, with a hint of cozy cabin glow.

Prix Fixe Menu Review Hands down the favorite dish of the night were the Nantucket Bay Scallops. Everything on the plate worked together. It was fantastic. Many times you go through a meal with multiple courses and you have one or two that just fall short. The winter 2025 Prix Fixe did not have a miss for us. Each plate was delicious and well prepared. Zero negative comments for this meal. The service was excellent and everyone was friendly. It kept the atmosphere from being too stuffy, but still felt very professional.

Overall a really enjoyable meal. Had the 4 course and got to try most of the dishes sharing with my partner. Some really interesting flavors and standout dishes. The canapes, salad, and scallops were particularly tasty with great flavor and balance. However, a few of the dishes ended up feeling a little bit heavy/salty like the cauliflower soup, the soba sauce, and the short rib that was paired with the steak had a sauce that was almost gluey. The chocolate dessert had a great flavor but was too sweet. Similar with the coconut macaron, delicious but too sweet. The small caviar addition had delicious components, but the brioche was too thick and not toasted enough so the bite was overpowered by the bread. Wife and I had a lovely 10 course tasting with them a few days ago and we’re still talking about it. The food quality was spectacular, the service is excellent, great wine list and a comfortable setting. Every single course was imaginative, delicious and wonderfully presented. The chefs are truly gifted and deserve your support. We can’t say enough positive things about Trokay, and can’t wait to come back.

We just had our anniversary dinner here. How does this restaurant not have a Michelin star? Some of the most incredible food we have ever had and it’s here in Truckee! We have been most disappointed with the truckee food scene especially for what it costs up here, but Trokay is absolutely worth the hype, expense, and your time. The flavors of every course were put together masterfully. I just wish we had gotten it together enough to come here sooner, what a gem to have in town. I hope anyone that is a foodie or just wants to be blown away by some amazing food/ flavors makes it to this restaurant. You will be impressed! The owners are amazing, just look at those resumes, and the service was wonderful. Definitely will be coming back!
