Walked in for an early lunch while exploring Providence on foot. The space was low-key and comfortable. The lunch special was the perfect serving for $10. I got to jolla rice, spinach and chicken. Everything was flavorful with a hint of spice. My first experience having Nigerian food and throughly enjoyed the quick bite. Abi was behind the counter (usually at the other location) and he gave me a rundown of the cuisine and different types of fufu. Would definitely go back again to try the other offerings.
My first time ever trying African food. I was really eager to try. so I ordered the designer sauce stew full bowl with meats and egg ($13) and 2 side of pounded yam ($6) for total of $19.. I feel like this is appropriate size for one person. When I receive items I was stunned. Stew had 1 egg, small tiny pieces of liver and a piece of cartilage joint part from Chicken drum. The rest was all chopped peppers and palm oil. I'm just surprised by the protein to sauce ratio and the portion for that price. Well not be eating from here ever! And I do not recommend to other's. You can get a better meal for that price
The Village PVD restaurant was situated in between businesses and near hotels. ...Not many restaurants in this area for visitors. While walking, I decided to explore Nigerian food for the first time. I Chose Jollof rice with plantains because was a vegan choice.Although the plantains were soggy and stale, the rice was mildly spicy, and I would have appreciated it more if they had been fresh. Given the time they just open, I should not wait to heat up rice. My other option was to try the fish, but it look like it's been sitting in the sauce for a while and also had a lot of bone. The decor was warm and inviting.
Full disclosure: I am not an expert on African food but I am great at eating food. I was in the neighborhood and decided to pop in for a popup that was happening. While my drink was being made, my mouth was watering from the incredible aroma. I wasn't even hungry but I just had to have some so my friend agreed to split it with me. We ended up getting the Egusi Stew was absolutely delicious and the Fufu was perfect (again, I'm not an expert). We also got the Jollof Rice. Everything was just so comforting. The only things that weren't 5/5 were the pastries (the beef was a little bland) and the plantains (they were fine. I like mine crisper). Still will absolutely be back, especially for that Jollof Rice. We spent $45 total for both meals + the pastries and we had so many leftovers that I
I ordered the fufu and egusi and it was phenomenal. It had all the spice and sauce that I would want in a dish. I was only upset that I couldn’t eat more. I ordered through DoorDash and it arrived very quickly ~35min
