We saw the restaurant had a great score on Yelp but we were 50 minutes away. We made the drive and I have to say out was well worthwhile. The trout dip starter was excellent — super creamy. I had the gochujang ribs which were a special — excellent flavor. We were stuffed but went for the ooey gooey cake — also wonderful. This is an instant favorite. We'll be back.
Well worth the 1hr drive from Erwin, TN. My family is originally from Ohios appalachia and my husbands is from over in Andrew's, NC. Both of us were raised most of our lives down in SWFL. We love trying new restaurants and The Tin Trout came highly recommended. Living in SWFL we know good food and fine dining. I have worked front of house with world renound chefs. My husband was trained under a world renound chef who has even judged on one of Chef Ramsay's shows. While this restaurant isn't technically fine dining the food is definitely fine dining quality. We were greeted by a smiling hostess who sat us promptly. Our server with a smile was at the table immediately to greet us and take our drink order. I love they bring a board and leave it on the table with all the specials for the night
I rarely get excited to post a review after visiting a place for the first time - but I'm excited to post this. Backstory. We've lived in the area for 3 years and often considered, but never eaten here. Why? Can't get adult beverages. We generally don't eat out unless we need an escape and as such, I like to have a cocktail. Then I learned you can BYOB here and once I knew this, it was on the list. Very comfortable spot. Easy parking and loved the corner booth. Get there early. We arrived at 530ish and were sat immediately but by 645, there were folks waiting (short wait, and this is peak summer season). Server was amazing. Didn't hover but was anxious to take care of us. We started with the fried oysters app and hushpuppies. Both were exceptional. The oysters were lightly battered
Cool spot. Feels very local. All scratch made. I had the trout dip. It was ok. It didn't have a lot of trout in it. Seemed like a bit too much cream cheese. I probably wouldn't recommend it. I also had the fried oysters and they were the star of the meal. The breading was excellent and they were fried perfectly. I tried the shrimp and grits. It needed something I couldn't quite land on. Maybe salt. It was good, just a bit bland. I also thought it needed more grits. It was quite soupy. Service was excellent. People were all nice.
We fish the area and have passed by for years. Today we came up to enjoy Linville Falls Winery and decided on dinner at The Tin Trout. We came as the door opened at 5 for dinner. The place was so cute and we enjoyed sitting in the back area with the windows. Ordered drinks (they do not serve alcohol but you can bring your own in according to their menu! Note to self: bring a bottle of wine next time !) and we were given a complimentary bowl of homemade pickles which were so good. Our server was polite and we didn’t wait long for anything we needed . Appetizers: we went with the Trio of dips. Smoked trout, pimento cheese and bleu cheese dips - opted for the pita instead of saltines for 1.50 upcharge- they were all delicious and the warm pita bread was fantastic to dip in them- I do
