The Shipwright's Daughter in Mystic, CT is running a Wednesday beef Wellington special through the end of February, & it is absolutely worth planning around. Chef David Standridge a 2024 James Beard Award winner delivers a dining experience that earns every bit of its reputation. From the warm, attentive service to the inviting ambiance, the evening felt like a true five-star experience. Reservations are a must for the Wednesday deal. It sold out by around 6 pm, & it’s easy to see why. We started with fried oysters, sourdough served with a sweet potato rosemary butter, & a beautifully crisp pig’s head app. Each dish was thoughtful, balanced, & deeply flavorful. The pièce de résistance was the beef Wellington. Perfectly cooked, richly layered, & bursting with flavor, it was a genuine master

Absolutely befitting of the James Beard Award and many other accolades that Chef David Standridge and the establishment has won. 10 stars out of 5! Great happy hour, taking place on weekends too. Dedicated philosophy of farm to table and local sourcing, straight from the Stonington fleet. •Fried oysters exquisitely crispy on exterior, briney tender otherwise. Abed a complex herbal cream sauce with a dash of chili oil •"Sea-scargot" slipper limpet a first-try ever. Al dente clam-like texture with richly ocean umami flavor and herbal garlic butter sauce. Perfect to soak up with the rustic crusty bread •Monkfish mortadella with pistachio, a clever concept play. Balance of salty fish and earthy nuts. Thinly shaved and rolled presentation reminiscent of deli meat on toast •Beet-pickled deviled

This is by far one of my favorite experiences dining out. The atmosphere is cozy, not pretentious. The service is top notch. And the food is incredible. My server (sorry I didn't remember her name) asked what I looked for in a good wine and suggested the perfect one. Maybe a bit too perfect because it went down too smoothly! I ordered the Local Black Sea Bass Crudo as an appetizer, it was beautiful to look at and each bite was better than the first. I had the Roasted Seacoast Mushroom as my entree. The flavor was superb. I didn't leave anything behind. For dessert I had the Concord Grape Sorbet and an espresso martini which they subbed the cream with oat milk since I cannot have dairy. The restaurant and the service made my birthday celebration an amazing experience! I highly recommend

My husband and I went for brunch on my birthday, as sort of a capstone for a decadent weekend of good eats. I didn’t want anything too heavy and just got their poached chicken Cobb salad with a side of the housemade hash brown, husband got their benedict. I didn’t try his, but he said it was delicious. Mine was too - they used a vinaigrette type of dressing that was perfectly light, with super fresh greens and perfectly cooked chicken. The hash brown was beautifully crispy on the outside but soft on the inside and tasted divine. I did also get a flat white - note they can do decaf espresso drinks and have oatmilk as their nondairy option. It wasn’t the best but also not the worst flat white I’ve ever had. I didn’t taste the oatmilk the first few sips, mentioned it to my server, and they w

Quite possibly the best meal I’ve had all year. Attended the feast of the seven fishes and every dish was somehow better than the last. The most outstanding was the desert that somehow incorporated OYSTER FLAVORED mousse??!? And it WORKED?!?!? This restaurant is an absolute must in Mystic and Alex was such an active and passionate sever- truly blew me away with him attentiveness and sensibility. Not the first time dining here, but certainly not the last! Will be back in spades, compliments to the chef!!
