The Shanty

Lovely place right on the water. We ended up dining her several times during our trip to Cape Charles. Great drinks, beautiful outdoor bar to catch a sunset. Everything we had was delicious. Our bartender was also excellent.

Everything was amazing here. The food, the service, the views. On a Saturday evening in July, wait was an hour and a half but was well worth it. Beautiful view of the sunset over the water, great food, great drinks. Just an outstanding experience all around! Update Septemer 1, 2025. I originally went here July 5th, 2025 and was served by Cat, who was great. I visited again for Labor Day Weekend (8/30 to 9/1) and visited every day, this time the bar, served by Amanda and Jasmine. And service was excellent as well as the food and drinks. Really added to the great experience I had in Cape Charles and can't wait to visit again next year!

It’s hard to beat the view. Oysters in season are rocking, the po boy is spot on. My son loves the clam chowder. My other son loves the flounder and fries, and so do I. Perfect way to wrap up a day fishing.

The food here is pretty good. Had the Po boy / shrimp sandwich and coleslaw as well as calamari and a seafood dish. The calamari was good but the sauce was kind of tangy. The other stuff was fresh and good. The atmosphere is relaxing with the beach vibes setting. The only thing that threw it off was the industrial stuff on the left.

Food was still pretty good, but the service was terrible. NY co-worker and I were seated and it took almost 15 minutes for a server to greet us. One of the young ladies kept dodging our table going to others around us and they were sat after we were. Finally I said something to the manager who was cleaning tables and he got Amanda to help us and she was busy, but friendly and helpful. If your a 2 top, go sit as the bar.
