I really appreciate the pay-by-the-pound option compared to AYCE. With all-you-can-eat, you often feel pressured to maximize value and end up overeating. At Tang Bar, the ingredients are fresh, and I like that they offer a lower-sodium option, my mouth didn’t feel dry afterward, unlike at some other hot pot spots. Unlike certain AYCE places that charge extra for a sauce bar, Tang Bar keeps it simple with just the essentials, which is all you really need. Personally, I prefer bean sauce over sesame, but what they provide works well. We tried the hot and sour broth, which leaned a bit more on the sour side. Next time, we’ll be more intentional about choosing the broth and balancing it with the right ingredients. It would be amazing if they offered broth samples, just a thought! Overall, Tan
It used to be a great place when it first opened, but now the prices have gone up from 13.99 per pound to 15.99. They might also change the broth ingredients; it’s too salty and almost inedible. I’m very disappointed and won’t be coming back.
Tang Bar is easily one of the best malatang spots we’ve been to. The ingredients are super fresh, and the broth is packed with flavor—especially the Spicy Sichuan one, which hits all the right notes. Service is friendly and quick, making the whole experience even better. Definitely a place we’ll be coming back to.
The food selection at this Ma La Tang is above average, and the restaurant feels clean and well-maintained. The customers need to wears gloves while picking up the food, which is a nice touch. The food is weighed and paid for at the end of raw food bar, just like other Ma La Tang restaurants. The cost of the food is $14.99 per pound, which is the same as other Ma La Tang restaurants. I’ve had reasonable $25ish meals at other Ma La Tang restaurants, but this time the cost was a bit shocking. Before tax and tips, it came to $34, and with tax and tips, it came to $43. I could have gone to a hotpot restaurant for a much better meal for the cost of almost $45. The staff at the counter was very nice, and with the long line behind me; I didn’t try to see how much weigh is my food and was the b
Ordered the VEGAN mushroom broth, but noticed what appeared to be animal fat pieces in the soup. I’m not sure whether this was a labeling issue or cross-contamination from other orders, but it was concerning. I’d suggest preparing vegan dishes in a separate pot to avoid cross-contamination. I’m glad to see a malatang restaurant offering a vegan option, but you need to be more careful with how you handle the food
